What Do I Need to Know?

Frequent Asked Questions

How can therapy help me?

Many benefits are available from participating in therapy. Therapists can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping strategies for depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief, stress management, body image issues, and creative blocks. Many people also find that counselors can be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, marriage issues, and the hassles of daily life. Therapists can provide a fresh perspective on a complex problem or point you in the direction of a solution. The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on how well you use the process and practice what you learn. Some of the benefits available from therapy include:

  • Attaining a better understanding of yourself, your goals, and values

  • Developing skills for improving your relationships

  • Finding resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seek therapy

  • Learning new ways to cope with stress and anxiety

  • Managing anger, grief, depression, and other emotional pressures

  • Improving communications and listening skills

  • Changing old behavior patterns and developing new ones

  • Discovering new ways to solve problems in your family or marriage

  • Improving your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence

What is Tele-therapy?

Teletherapy is the center stage of the rapidly growing counseling options. Teletherapy is done via video or phone and allows the clients to receive the same type of therapy that they would receive in person. Teletherapy is private and conducted on a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. Therapists perform these sessions in private, secure places and expect you to go to a quiet, private space so that your privacy will be protected just as it would be in a traditional session.

Teletherapy is very effective. Research shows that this type of therapy is as helpful as in-person, traditional therapy. Teletherapy is also convenient and accessible, which helps people maintain their consistency with the sessions. With all of these benefits listed, it is essential to note that teletherapy is not for everyone or all situations. Clients should assess their personal comfort with the idea and then consult their therapist to ensure they agree.

What about medication vs. psychotherapy?

It is well established that the long-term solution to mental and emotional problems and the pain they cause cannot be solved solely by medication. Instead of just treating the symptom, therapy addresses the cause of our distress and the behavior patterns that curb our progress. You can best achieve sustainable growth and a greater sense of well-being with an integrative approach to wellness. Working with your medical doctor, you can determine what's best for you, and in some cases, a combination of medication and therapy is the right course of action.

Will you prescribe medication?

I do not prescribe medication. Only licensed physicians can prescribe medications. If you believe that you need medication, I will refer you to a psychiatrist who can treat you best.

Do you accept insurance?

We are not in-network with any insurance providers. All service requires private pay accepting Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express.

Does what we talk about in therapy remain confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is one of the most important components between a client and a therapist. State law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain confidentiality except for the following situations:

* Suspected past or present abuse or neglect of children, adults, and elders to the authorities, including Child Protection and law enforcement, based on information provided by the client or collateral sources.

* If the therapist has reason to suspect the client is seriously in danger of harming themself or has threatened to harm another person.

What is a Coaching?

A Wellness Coach is someone qualified to support, encourage, challenge, and motivate you to achieve your goals. A coach is an excellent active listener who can pick up from your voice what you are really thinking and facilitate you to move towards your goals. They will celebrate your successes, help you discover how to overcome obstacles, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and enable you to move forward at a far greater pace than you could achieve on your own, with the aim of achieving your goals and discovering a much happier life.

What are the benefits of Coaching?

The benefits of coaching are having someone solely dedicated to you and the achievement of your goals. They are non-judgmental, supportive, encouraging, and motivating just when you need them. They keep you focused on where you want to be and moving forward in the right direction. They will enable you to get to where you want to be in life, much faster than you could on your own.

How is Coaching different from Therapy?

Coaching and Therapy are similar in that both therapist and coaches ask the client questions, sometimes requiring a lot of soul-searching. Neither a therapist nor a coach will give advice, but they will listen to what you say and direct the conversation with further pertinent questions. However, whereas the typical therapy session will be dealing with emotions and issues in the past affecting the present, the coaching relationship is focused on the future. It deals with optimizing the opportunities in your life to ultimately achieve greater happiness.
